Expanding upon the Gunpla Magazine prototype, I developed V-Fin over the course of 2020 and 2021. I created a robust content schedule with video, online articles, social media posts, and a print magazine. While every video, article, and post could stand alone, I focused on telling stories across platforms in a way that made following all of V-Fin’s media channels worthwhile. I assembled a small team consisting of Andrew Ewry (VP and writer), Riley Gates (video editor and 3D graphic artist), Adam Ewry (feature video director and editor), Josh Krogman (designer and photographer), and Alexis Debernay (web designer and writer). We began work on Volume 001 of V-Fin and began tackling the logistics of launching in late 2020. While reception to our test content was positive, ultimately, the cost of acquiring professional video equipment and the increasing difficulty in finding Gunpla kits due to the pandemic rendered the project unfeasible.
The article below was one of the three pieces I wrote for the first volume. I also designed the layout of this piece using InDesign 2020. This piece has raw photos, hence the exclamation point on the photo at the upper-right of the final spread, denoting this photo needed adjustment due to a minor issue with the background. Had the project continued, this article would have included a link to a companion video showing the waist mechanism of the model in detail.
Cover design and the V-Fin Magazine logo are by Josh Krogman.
